This visionary artist and entrepreneur is the founder of Belly Motions®, Inc., serving as Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) overseeing all of the company’s operations. Portia has dedicated every ounce of her time and energy to create a successful company offering Belly Dance classes, performers and merchandise for both local and international markets.
With an extensive background in health, fitness and education, Portia has perfected Belly Dance instruction, tailoring her format to reach the masses via a step-by-step approach based on her understanding of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. She has created the Belly Motions® Teaching Method combining the structure of the dance model with the benefits of the fitness model creating a fun and digestible dance-fitness format specifically designed for the non-dancer, de-conditioned participant or general public. Thousands of students have studied this life changing art form under her instruction. Portia has brought together and trained the best instructors and performers to ensure Belly Motions delivers a quality product that is safe, effective and enjoyable for all.
Portia has been featured in high profile publications and frequently appears on television promoting the art of Belly Dance and Belly Motions. She has appeared on HGTV’s “House Hunters”, TLC’s “Four Weddings”, and Univision’s “Despierta America”. In 2011, she won Miami Herald’s 20Under40 Emerging Business Leaders of South Florida and was recognized by Brickell and Yallah magazines as a leader in the community. Portia became a “Fashion Cover Girl” in February 2012, on four editions, in three languages of the number one fashion magazine in the world ELLE. The six page spread in English, French and Arabic was historical on many levels!
Portia has devoted her life and every ounce of energy to changing the stereotypical ideals of the public, debunking myths and bringing positive awareness of this ancient art form. Portia likes to say one of her missions in life is to “raise the bar of Belly Dance one hip at a time!”
